Bloomington, Indiana's fiber network ties fire stations to city's GIS mapping system

Bloomington, Indiana's fiber network ties fire stations to city's GIS mapping system
Hoosier Times article:

""With the system we've set up, you can type in an address and it can take you to that address. We'll also be able to give responding crews information of where the closest hydrants are," said Scott Smith, deputy chief of administration for the Bloomington Fire Department."

"The GIS system can also point out the different water mains located in an area to prevent firetrucks from tapping the same water line. The instantaneous access to GIS information is the result of the city "lighting up" of the Bloomington Digital Underground earlier this month."
