St. George, Utah attracts a second fiber line into the area

St. George, Utah attracts a second fiber line into the area

This southern Utah town has been totally dependent on one 275-mile fiber cable link to the outside world owned by incumbent telco Qwest. Qwest had refused to build a redundant link, scaring away several potential new employers that needed redundant voice and data connections. Now the city has recruited a second provider to build a redundant link.

“A private company is footing the bill for a redundant fiber optic network that business and local leaders say will place the St. George area on par with first class cities in terms of telephone, Internet and other telecommunications services.”
