"Alone and in groups, vendors line up for FTTP award"

"Alone and in groups, vendors line up for FTTP award"

Interesting article in Lightwave about which vendors might be partnering to respond to the Bells RFP (request for proposals) for FTTP (fiber to the premises) gear.

We know most of these guys and we wish them well. I hope the Bells really embrace FTTP, deploy millions of miles of last mile fiber and finally bring real broadband (not just some slow DSL flavor of "fraudband") to all Americans.

In the meantime, we're beavering away, utility by utility, to help all the towns the Bells seem to have forgotten. We should all hope that lowly Fiber Planners doesn't end up installing more FTTP fiber in 2004 than one of the big Bells -- that would be a pathetic reflection on the Bells.
