This is progress?? BellSouth proudly announces new slower DSL offering

" In an attempt to lure customers away from dial-up and toward broadband, several companies are trying new 'broadband-lite' plans that offer less punch, for less money. Last week BellSouth took the wraps off of their 'DSL lite' tier, which offers 256Kbps downstream and 128K upstream for $40 a month. Cable provider RCN today unveiled some marketing hoopla of their own, launching their Value Modem price plan. The tier offers the same speeds as BellSouth's DSL product, for the same price (though if you bundle, the monthly cost drops to $29.95)"

Meanwhile, in Japan, you can get 100 MB service over fiber for about the same price ...
