Fairhope, Alabama: "Cable system passes voter hurdle: Decision on municipal network now up to City Council"

Fairhope, Alabama: "Cable system passes voter hurdle: Decision on municipal network now up to City Council"

"By a margin of more than 2-1 Tuesday, residents approved a proposal that will allow city officials to consider hooking up a municipal cable system."

If the city decides to go forward, they have said they would use the local municipal utility's infrastructure and fiber to the home (FTTH) technology.

"According to the business plan, the system would have 118 miles of cable. The service would be made available to 6,573 homes and 930 businesses. The plan estimated that during the first two years of operation, 3,974 homes and 155 businesses would subscribe to the Fairhope system."
