New Zealand: Another power utility rolling out broadband to its' customers

New Zealand: Another power utility rolling out broadband to its' customers

"A new broadband wireless network to be established in Central Hawke's Bay by the end of the year will mean the days of having a coffee while waiting for e-mail files to download could be a thing of the past. Plans to introduce the service were announced yesterday by lines company Centralines, which hoped to give about half the district's residents the option of high-speed internet access in stage one of a three-stage plan ..."

"Centralines Trust chairman Helen Walker said the move was prompted by the need for such a service and a concern that the community was missing out on the benefits of the information age. It was unlikely those benefits would be achieved unless Centralines took the initiative to provide the service, Ms Walker said."

Another NZ utility, Counties Power, is also offering broadband to its' customers, using a mixture of fiber in the denser areas and wireless in rural area.
