Michigan: Holland municipal utility to connect schools with fiber

"District awards contract for fiber cable"

"The Ottawa Area Intermediate School District awarded a $619,534.61 contract to Holland Board of Public Works Thursday night to install fiber for a Wide Area Network in area high schools. Schools in Holland, Saugatuck, Zeeland and Hamilton will receive the cable from the BPW as part of a larger effort to expand the network into all 11 community districts in the intermediate school district's jurisdiction. Randall Bergers, the superintendent of the Ottawa district, said the $2 million project will serve about 55,000 students overall. The first schools are expected to come online with the network in January and each of the schools receiving BPW cable should be wired in by next April."

Holland BPW already has an extensive fiber network and is continuing to deploy fiber around the city on an ongoing basis.
