Denmark: NVE's FTH Bredbånd

Jaap van Till with Stratix Consulting Group BV near Amsterdam has pointed me towards another Nordic power utility building a FTTH (fiber to the home) network.

Danish electric cooperative NVE is building a 50,000 home FTTH network in northwestern Zealand. NVE has already been in the wholesale telecommunications business for some time leasing dark fibers in the extensive OPGW (optical groundwire) network it has installed on its' high voltage transmission system.

NVE is already converting much of its' 10 kV aerial distribution system to buried service and is taking the opportunity to deploy fiber at the same time.

NVE has an extensive Danish language site devoted its' FTH Bredbånd business. Two vendors, Panduit and Kreatel, have also published brief capsule descriptions in English of the FTH (Fiber til Hjemmet) project.

The Digital Reykjavik Conference at the end of this month will bring together FTTH players from across Europe, including another Danish power utility, NESA, Italy's FastWeb and of course, Reykjavik Energy's Lina.net.
