Utah: Provo City Council approves next step in financing FTTH project

Provo's City Council voted 6-1 last night to authorize the city's financial advisors to obtain bonding information to fund construction of the municipal power utility's iProvo FTTH (fiber to the home) network (a small portion of the network was built earlier as a technology trial and has been in operation for over a year). The Council will make its' final, official decision on funding iProvo on January 20 after 3 public hearings.

As the local paper explained the decision, "the 6-1 vote does not bind the council to approve the bond but does express the council's intent to do so."
