Idaho: Amperion and IDACOMM launch BPL pilot in Boise
BPL (broadband over power line) vendor Amperion and utility telecom IDACOMM today announced that they are deploying BPL to 100 homes in Boise over Idaho Power's system in a pilot BPL deployment. (IDACOMM and Idaho Power are both owned by IDACORP.)
Last year, IDACOMM had announced (September 3, September 23) that it was working with Ambient on a 100-home BPL project in Boise; is this a vendor switch or a second pilot? Reading between the lines of the press release, it looks like Ambient might have been dumped:
"'Amperion accommodated our deployment needs with very short notice, and the product worked as promised without any need for modification,' stated IDACOMM President and Chief Executive Officer Chris Britton. 'We looked at several competing solutions, and based upon our results, we like the way the Amperion Connect solution performs. Their team's responsiveness and technical expertise have also impressed us.'"
