Washington Chelan County PUD deploying FTTH, trialing BPL

Washington's Chelan County Public Utility District continues their slow but steady construction of a FTTH network that will eventually serve 75% of their customers by the end of the decade. The initially planned to use Marconi equipment but switched to Alcatel when Marconi pulled back from the FTTH market last spring.

The PUD's current focus is on building a backbone network for their system as well as connecting schools, hospitals and government agencies.

Meanwhile, the PUD is also planning pilot BPL (broadband over power line) trials; the PUD may use BPL in areas where they don't deploy FTTH (fiber to the home).
