Wisconsin editorial: "Let locals wire state"

The Madison Capital Times ran an editorial backing municipal broadband efforts in Wisconsin in the face of telco and cable TV lobbyists' efforts to outlaw them. The paper correctly characterized the lobbyists' proposed bill as "spam legislation". Here's an excerpt:

"Why would some of the world's most powerful corporations care if Wisconsin villages and small cities set up local utilities to provide high-speed Internet service, which might not otherwise be available in those communities? Because those big corporations fear the competition. And they really fear the prospect that, as Wisconsinites in larger cities recognize that municipal utilities can provide better quality service at a lower cost than the private sector, there will be a demand for public-sector solutions in places like Milwaukee and Madison."
