"Verizon Leads the Charge to Deploy Fiber To Customer Premises, But Regulatory Challenges Loom, Says Yankee Group"

"The Yankee Group anticipates Verizon Communications will pass more than 350,000 customer locations with fiber by the end of 2004. This is significantly less than the 1 million locations Verizon is advertising, due to a murky regulatory environment. Nevertheless, this deployment should generate more than $150 million in broadband equipment revenue. During the next five years, the Yankee Group forecasts the deployment will reach almost 6 million homes, apartments and businesses, and will generate equipment revenue of nearly $3 billion for Verizon alone.
