Two Bells that 'can't afford' to offer FTTH are paying AT&T $1850 per wireless customer

The Business Courier notes:
"Cingular Wireless's breathtaking $41 billion acquisition of AT&T Wireless should put to rest once and for all that SBC and BellSouth, its parent companies and joint owners, are struggling companies deserving a free ride from regulators at customers' expense.

BellSouth and SBC were so eager for the deal that they trumped a competing $38B bid from Britain's Vodafone by $3 billion in the course of four hours in the wee hours of the morning. Measured another way, Cingular is paying about $1,850 per AT&T Wireless subscriber.

From a business point of view, Cingular can now double its revenues, and its owners SBC and BellSouth can exert even more control over wire line and wireless phone services alike.
